New Mexico or Bust

                                                  Gypsy under a Blue Moon

We made it…we made it…we made it!  It took us 11 hours from Austin.  Vannie and Dave hopped out of bed this morning like a couple of young chicks.  They had one thing on their minds and that was to head west. They talked about getting as far as Fort Stockton, TX, but when they got there and were making such good time, they decided to keep on going.  The next place that was calling their names was Carlsbad, NM.  They had never been down in the caverns there, so they said, “Why not?”

V and D were so good to me all the way.  They would stop and let my tires cool off about every two hours.  David gave me a good scrubbing the night before we left.  Boy, I felt like a million dollars after that…and looked like a million, too.  The trip was really nice.  Once we got onto I10 the traffic was not bad at all.   We thought it would be much worse because of the Labor Day Weekend.

At 4:30 (3:30 NM time), we all arrived at the Carlsbad RV Campground.  After Dave unhooked me from my BFF (Ford 150) and plugged all my plugs in, I was settled in for a nice rest.  I was hot and tired and ready to just chill.  I assumed V and D would do the same…NOT!  Vannie  found this local travel magazine with information about a concert and hike at the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park.  The celebration was in honor of the “blue moon”. So they rested a nano second and were off to the races.  I was so-o-o-o glad they left me behind.  My behind was dragging…so to speak!

The state park must have been a huge hit.  They couldn’t stop talking about it even when they got back to me.  I was snoozing, but heard things like…animals/plants in natural habitats, wolves, snakes, bald eagle, elk, cactus, hike in dark, full moon, telescope, concert, musician Tadd Williams, awesome.

I can't believe it...I simple can not believe that the summer is over. I've posted some of the awesome activities since I last dropped you a line. Vannie, Dave, and I are rolling out of Austin tomorrow...August 31.  It had  been wonderful getting to know Roy, Emilie, Vincent, and little Madeline.  We have had so many good times together this summer.  Vannie and Dave have introduced me to new friends and new activities.  Tomorrow we will start for New Mexico.  I'll keep you posted as we make our stops.
