CELEBRATION IN LA VETA, COLORADO

By
Gypsy Rhapsody
(A 1976 Airstream that was a little ticked when she found out Vannie and Dave went on their 50th wedding anniversary outing and stayed in a painted up hussie.)

Oh, they said they were going to La Veta, CO
for their wedding anniversary outing...
never mentioning that they had reserved
a "cute little camper" to stay in.
When I saw the pictures, I was SHOCKED.
It was nothing but a little painted up hussie.
They tried to weasel out of it...saying
that it was not nearly as lovely to stay in as me...
and I had such wonderful skin that I would
never need to be painted...
and it was just for an overnighter.

Well, I forgave them when I saw the pictures.
La Veta is a darling little town,
and it looked like they were really enjoying themselves.

Bernice Baptist Church
Bernice, Louisiana

Oh my goodness...there is two of them.
I'm feeling nauseated...

Vannie said nothing worked except the coffee pot.
...and they paid good money to stay in this...
Looks like trick mirrors were used to make it look bigger.
"Po Thang..."

Bedroom????

Well, I guess I like the curtains.

Let's move on to another subject more pleasing...
The actual trip...

Dave was snapping picture out the window.

Spectacular sights every which way...
I think I have mentioned in one of my past blogs...
the journey getting to your destination can be just as rewarding
as the destination itself.

Dave is striding down the sidewalk
 exploring La Veta.

...and the columbine (Colorado state flower) is all over the place...

...just another adorable little shop...
Vannie said to check out that "Polly"...he's real.

Sweet...and 4th of July Parade on the 1st...

...all ages...

...Be a Clown, Be a Clown, Be a Clown..,

Vannie said the quilt show was so much fun.
They voted on the best quilt, throw, and wall hanging.
So many beautiful creations.
V and D's friend, Marjie Riggo back in Hillsboro, TX
would have loved this exhibit... Marjie is an expert quilter.

Art in the Park
Vannie had flashbacks of her many trips to
Canton, MS for their arts and crafts fair.

Come on, V and D...
Fudge...no way...aren't you guys off sugar.
Well, I guess you can have a bite...it's your anniversary.

Last little shop before heading home...
I think I see Dave glazing over...how many
cute little shops and art booths can one experience in one day without going blind. lol

Scenic Highway back home

La Veta...at the base of the Spanish Peaks
La Veta means mineral vein in Spanish.
There was a large mineral deposit in the area when then town was established.

A big surprise on the way home...
Mother May's Garden
V and D heard about this garden
when they stopped for coffee in San Luis
on the way to La Veta.  They told themselves
they would look it up on the way home.

A non-denominational Prayer and Meditation Garden
San Luis, Colorado
The statue of Mary is 10 feet 5 inches.
It is a totem carving of red cedar
by Native-American Lee Wallace of the Haida Tribe of Ketichan, Alaska.

...an oasis in the middle of a desert...

It is still a work in progress.
Vannie said she would like to know more about this creation.

There were several labyrinths...each with a little bit different design.

V and D were amazed with the designs of the various gardens.

A small chapel was available

...and to top off the end of the perfect anniversary weekend...
"A Heart Rock"
