LOT OF FUN IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

By

Minuet in G

(a 1979 Argosy made by Airstream that has decided she's Texan)

Yep, it's official...I'm Texan.
Vannie and Dave still have a
hard time saying they are Texan.
In fact, if the truth be known,
they still say they are from Louisiana.
It might not ever happen, folks,
so I'm just moving on.

It' s been a wonderful two months in Austin.
Lots to do around these parts, for sure.
It's probably going to take me a couple of
more blogs to get it all in.

Don't you just adore this.
Vannie's friend, Lois, gave her this
model of me last year. It didn't look exactly like me
at the time, but Vannie did a little work on it...
and now, it is the spittin' image of me.

The bluebonnets have been glorious.
They are everywhere...highways, byways, nooks and crannies.

D and V had lots of projects while in Austin.
This one was some lawn chair carriers.
Dave came up with this idea.
hmmmmm

Vannie's still sewing on her mama's machine.
They don't make them like this anymore.
There will be a picture of the carriers in a future blog.
They are still in progress.

This mama bird built a nest on the ground right by our bar-be-que grill.
She had 5 babies. She is busy feeding them.
Dave googled her...a tufted titmouse.
She probably would object to the angle of this shot.

A project at Emilie's was to get her patio cleaned off...
get some new chairs...and start grilling.
Emilie ordered that red triangle from Amazon.

Then we added a bigger table (garage sale purchase)
and invited the neighbors.

Next was fixing up another area in the yard that was
kinda useless...even Prince was a little tired of it.

Some fencing was purchased at Home Depot.
Emilie and Dave stained it, and now they are moving it to the backyard.

and drop down into the hammock swing...
Can't have a hammock swing and not have a little head sticking out!!!

One the other end of the yard is the trampoline.
On a hot summer's day...a trampoline with a mister is a must.
Emilie and Vincent put that whole thing together all by themselves.
Vannie and Dave were amazed and proud.

Some diversion from projects...
WonderSpaces Art Gallery
Vannie and Dave really enjoyed all the creations.
Amazing

Dave was getting in a little Art Therapy.
He was splashing color just by moving his arms.

In one direction...a bunch of dots...

Moving in another direction...
a face of the artist's wife.
Incredible

These 2 garbage workers were moving trash to match the hands of a clock.
The diameter of the clock was about 20 plus feet.
V and D were standing in front of this image at actually 10:25.
How da do dat?

I love it when the kids come out.
Maddie and her friend

The gang enjoyed rummaging through a box of old jewelry.

Maddie especially loved these earrings that belonged to her great grandmother.

When it's not enough room in me, Vannie moves to
the truck to complete her online art lesson by Tricia Robinson.

Vannie's completed project
Paint, paper, glue

Always a joy to meet up with old friends from Lafayette
that have moved to Austin.
Harvey and Joan Bollich
(Dave said...Sorry I got them in the shadows.)
Vannie taught with Joan at Broadmoor Elementary.

Bob and Melba Thomas
The Bayou Church Friends

Ahhh...nuttin' like the smell of banana bread
Betcha can't eat just one loaf...oops, I mean piece.

SNOWMAGEDDON TO A SPECTACULAR SPRINGTIME

 By

Minuet in G (Minnie G)

(a 1979 Argosy made by Airstream that remembers the snow, and is thankful for the springtime)

Douglas is a good friend of Vannie and Dave's
and is a fabulous photographer.
He took this photo of Gypsy Rhapsody at our lot in Texas
during the first snow of the season.
I was in Louisiana and missed the photo shoot.

Got back to Texas just in time for the second snow...
and boy, was it a doozie.
Valentine's Day...snow
Crock pot Soup...snow

Vannie went on a walk...and love was in the air.
This one spot on the road was melted in the shape of a heart.
Just never know what's going to show up along your path...
just gotta keep your eyes wide open.

It was COLD, folks.
When it gets down to 0...no matter how much heat
you have going on inside a trailer...IT"S COLD.
Layer up and carry on...

This flamingo in our park was chilly, but she still had her head held high.

Mardi Gras...my Louisiana gal was shaking in her boots.

...and then, just like that, it was over.
Vannie and Dave got some new gravel on their lot,
and Gypsy was shining like the top of the Chrysler Building.
Look closely and you can see a reflection of me.
Cool!!!

Baseball Season
Vannie, Dave, and I are at the Lone Star RV in Austin now.
V and D LOVE heading to the baseball field and watching
grandson, Vincent, play ball.  He plays 3rd base, pitcher, and left field.
Here he is winding up on the pitcher's mound.

Here's Dave showing us his muscles???
Their daughter, Emilie, had a bunch of dead plants in
her yard after Snowmageddon...so when one doesn't
have enough muscles to dig up a dead plant, one
just hooks one end of a tow rope to the hitch and ties
the other end to the plant...drives forward in the truck...
and, viola, removal of dead plant is DONE.
Brains not Braun!!!

Sweet Granddaughter, Maddie, and
the newest member of the Salvagio family, Prince.
Prince is a sweetie, too.

A Beautiful Day at the Waco Zoo
Vannie says that the Waco Zoo is one of the best in the state.
Spring Break ushered in a perfect day to go check it out.
Love this picture of a cat, blue sky, pink flowers.

The 3 stooges...
Vincent, Maddie's friend, and Maddie

Beautiful day in the Neighborhood

Vannie and Maddie at the Ballet

The Girls enjoyed watching Cinderella.

Maddie's sleepover after the ballet...
She was working on a gypsy swag.
Upon completion, it will go on her window in her bedroom.

Sometimes girls need a touch-up.
Vannie said it was time for me.
I'm delighted someone has by back,
and keeps my appearance up to snuff.

2020...check BRING ON 2021

                                                                                By

                                                                        Minuet in G

(a 1979 Argosy, made by Airstream, who has a blast trying to keep up with Vannie and Dave)

Vannie and Dave had a great Christmas to round off 2020.

They celebrated in Austin, TX and then again in Lafayette, LA.

Lots of great family fun

Merry Christmas
from
Vannie and Dave
Ho  Ho  Ho

They were in Austin for Christmas morning.
Don't you love Maddie and Vincent's faces when they saw what Santa had brought them.
Vannie said that no matter had old she gets, she always remembers the
excitement of Christmas morning.

Vincent wondering..."What's in this present?"
Tear it open, Vincent.
I bet it is something you'll love.

Maddie was excited about her new American Boy Doll.
She renamed him about a dozen times.
Vannie said she didn't know what was the last one.

Dave enjoys getting a stocking as much as the kids.
He said Santa had some fun stuff .  That old Santa
has been around the block once or twice.

...And then there is always that one toy that you just have to read the instructions.
Emilie is trying to get the toy jeep's radio to pay.
It was actually bluetooth...REALLY!!!
It played Christmas music for the family for the rest of the day.
Christmas is high-tech now, Folks.!

Prince...
He is growing and growing and growing.
His bed is almost too small.
Vannie said the excitement was almost too much for him,
although, he got plenty of new toys, too.
Santa doesn't forget man or beast.

Oh my Goodness...
V and D's favorite Christmas movie is "Elf"...
and, low and behold, while on a walk in the neighborhood,
they had an "Elf" sighting.

Christmas Day pie making
YUM
T-Pop's favorite...Apple
These pies were actually a gift from a friend.
All the ingredients come in a box...the recipients put the pies together...
bake...eat...
What a great idea!!!

Moving on Lafayette and 2021

Happy New Year
Black-Eyed Peas....for luck...

...and cabbage...for money...
with a side of pork chops.

Bring on 2021...Vannie and Dave are ready.!

Ashley and Diane's House
Diane had made these adorable trees out of wood pallets.
The house looked so festive outside and inside.

Emilie and the kids followed us to Lafayette.
Diane cooked a big pot of chicken and sausage gumbo.
David said that when he was growing up, there was a kid's table
and a grown-up table.
Well, this is the grown-up table...

...and this is the kid's table.
What goes around, comes around.!

Grandkids
Maddie (8), Vincent (11), Cooper (15)
Girard Park in Lafayette

The ever popular ice cream truck...
Maddie, Emilie, and Vincent are having a treat.

Fireworks to top off the Christmas, New Year's Celebration

Acadian Park in Lafayette has wonderful hiking trails.
Ashley and Vannie tried this one out in November.
Ashley and Vannie let Dave tag along on their January hike.
It was such a nice mild Louisiana winter day.

They discovered this note tucked in a hole in a tree.
"Forest Spirits, Thank you for protecting this land.
We honor you. 💗 B, I, & J

Vannie's already thinking about what message she is
going to write on her next hike...wherever or whenever that might be.

V and D were parked in New Iberia, LA
right across the street from a sugar cane field.
This big harvester looks like a giant dinosaur about to eat that truck.  Yikes

David had a front row seat to watch the all activities.

Those guys work from sunup to sundown.

After the cane is cut,  it goes to the mill.

Farmer Mike McDonald owns the cane field across the street.
He had been a cane farmer for 30 years.
He brought V and D 2 bags of raw sugar.
Vannie interviewed Farmer Mike for an article for the
February Questa Del Rio News.
Really a nice guy!

The cane is all cut and carried away.
The final crew to check out the fields are the egrets.
They check the rows for bugs and bugs and more bugs.
Vannie said there were plenty out there...we are in Louisiana, you know.

Dave had one final project to complete on me before heading back to Texas.
Ashley came out and helped Dave with the work.
Dave said that he mostly just handed Ashley the tools,
and Ashley did the REAL work.

Vannie and Dave will be back in Texas next week.
Covid Vaccines scheduled for Tuesday.
Yea!!!
Ready to stomp this rascal in the ground.
