TEXANS ENTER INTO THE LAND OF ENCHANTMENT

 By

Gypsy Rhapsody

(a 1977 Airstream that loves kids from Texas)

Excited  Excited  Excited
My very own Texans have arrived.
Vannie and Dave have on their biggest smiles when they are surrounded
by their kids and grandkids.
Vincent...T-Pop...Eliana (Maddie's friend)...Vannie...Maddie...Emilie
(and, of course, ME)

Ellie and Maddie didn't lose any time rolling out the Rummikub game.

In fact, those girls did not let grass grow under their feet all week.

They found 2 more girls that loved to play games.  Sitting in the middle of the

living room floor was their favorite spot.

The ski lift was busy carting Ellie, Maddie, and Emilie up the mountain.
sooooo....

...they could ride back down on those big tubes.

Mountain tubing is a huge hit among the vacationers.

...and then there is the fishing...
Maddie and Ellie were trying to be very patient.
Can't beat that scenery!!!

Maddie's got one...YAY

Vincent's got another...

...and another!!!

...and what do you do with all those rainbow trout...

You season them with some Cajun seasoning...
and enjoy each wonderful bite!!!

Ice Cream cones for dessert!!!!

The Community House is Red River has so many great activities for

kids and grown-ups.  Maddie and Ellie are enjoying an art activity.

What's going on here???
The girls are involved in an art lesson about the artist, Georgia O'Keeffe.

The Caribel Condos has this poster of one of Georgia's works hanging in the hallway.

...so the girls had fun doing their own thing like Georgia.

The next day after the art lesson, we had tickets to tour Georgia's home in Abiquiu, NM.
Looks like the kids were a little stir crazy waiting for the tour to start.

It's starting soon...I HOPE.!!!

This was one of Georgia's paintings.

She painted this after flying in an airplane.

She loved watching the clouds out the plane window.

Her house was so interesting.
It combines Native American and Spanish Colonial building styles.
Some of the oldest rooms in the house were built around 1744.

Dave is checking out the adobe hacienda with rows of rooms

around an open space called a plazuela.

O'Keeffe grew a wonderful garden which supplied food for her and her guests.

It is still a working garden today.

Bones were her thing.

She loved the shapes and the colors.

The windows were like paintings...

They brought the outside in.

The view of the NM skies and landscapes were mesmerizing.

This room was a combination of studio and bedroom.

Maddie and Ellie especially liked hearing about her clothes.

Georgia loved to cook.  Her meals focused on homegrown and natural foods.

Oh NO...did Maddie cut herself in the kitchen???

Nope...just another one of her fake bandages.

Vannie said it's enough to give a grandma a heart attack.

All good things have to come to an end!
Our Texans flew out of Albuquerque.
Here they are arriving back in Austin...still smiling...well, the girls, anyway.

The next day Maddie and Emilie heading to pick up Prince at the Doggie Sleepover.

I think you can see that Maddie and Prince were very excited to see each other.

They look just alike!!!

JULY 4TH...2023

 By

Gypsy Rhapsody

(a 1977 Airstream that loves celebrating the 4th)

Vannie and Dave are heading to the big July 4th parade

in Red River, NM.

Dave is not dressed in red, white, and blue...
but he's lookin' pretty handsome in his new yellow shorts.

This gang snagged some good seats on the street.
Vannie and Dave...Dan and Dorothy Jowers

Main Street Red River...
Everyone lined up waiting for the parade to begin.
Reminds V and D of those many many Mardi Gras parades in Lafayette, LA

V and D's good friends, the Shirley's...
Mr. Shirley hauled his antique car all the way from Norman, OK
to be in the parade.
They are owners at the Caribel Condos,
so they were proud to display the Caribel banner.

Fiesta Queens

The theme of the parade was
"Red, White, and Rodeo".
Sooo lots of horses!!!

Mr. Red, White, and Blue himself

🎜Born in the USA🎝

More Local Festival Queens

...and more horses...

...and up close and personal...yikes!

Vannie said the kids went crazy when they saw who was driving the Red Bus.
SANTA
Guess he was taking a little break from the North Pole.

No...that's not me, but a cousin, I'm sure.
Dave said they were just trying to get through town with a parade going on.

Back to Questa and time to EAT
David and Dan were visiting chefs.

...and guess what was for lunch!!!
HOT DOGS
Perfect for the 4th

Vannie and Dorothy were ready to dig in.

A great 4th...

Now time to relax and enjoy the gorgeous evening as the sun goes down.

GO WEST YOUNG MAN/WOMAN

 By

Gypsy Rhapsody

(a 1977 Airstream that loves feeling cooler)

...and

the mountains of Northern NM is where the air

is fresh and cool...clear and blue...

and ya gotta go WEST to get there.

Come on, Pot-na,

Follow me as I guide you westward...

Tye RV Park
Tye, TX...near Sweetwater
Dave said, "Hi, y'all."

There were planes going over us that were "bigger'n Dallas"...
and louder, too.

Richard's RV Park
Shallow Water, TX...near Lubbock
There's "ain't" no place like Richard's.
Richard is Texan through and through.
"Sho-nuf" he is!!!

When we "lit out" the next morning...
it had come a "toad choker" during the night.
The water was not too sweet...
nor too shallow...
I thought V and D were going to have a "conniption fit".

I "reckon" it was time for a little history lesson.

We stopped for "a spell" at this little turn-off...

and "dad burn it" if there wasn't one of those little signs

that tells you a bunch of info about Texas...

Nice to learn something new!

Vannie was 'rarin' to get goin'.

She knew the next stop would be NM.

I "reckon" she made it...
Santa Rosa Lake State Park
Santa Rosa, NM

Dave said there was more rocks and dirt on the trail

than you could "shake a stick at".

But it "sure as tootin'" looks like the flowers

found a way to peek their pretty heads up.

🎜"Thar's an old cowhand"🎝

Vannie kept making a "fuss" every time she saw one of these cactus flowers.
They are just so "goll-darn" purdy!

"Hitched up the wagon",
and headed down the road again.
"Dad Gum it", that NM sky is
"as purdy as a peach"...if peaches were blue.  😀

Made it to Loretta's house in Rio Rancho.
Friend, Carmen came over, and they all
had a "hoot and holler" good time
for Vannie's birthday.

Vannie is cookin' up a "mess of vittles."

...and Dave looks like he is "handkerin'" to eat.

"Come hell or high water", we all made it to Questa...

our home for the summer.

"Can't beat that with a stick!!!

That sunset is gorgeous as "all git-out".

This" aint't my first rodeo", folks.

"Darn tootin'" this blog is is a wee bit corny.
