CHRISTMAS 2015 COME AND GONE

By
Gypsy Rhapsody

Love my December spot
behind the Clubhouse in Bernice, LA

Sittin' pretty...
Making new friends...squirrels, dogs, birds...
Vannie and Dave did lots of coming in and out
and back and forth.

Christmas 2015... come and gone...
or was it
came and went...
It was a great Christmas, with lots of surprises.

December was such an eventful month, I haven't had a minute to write.
Let me do some 2015 catching up,
and then we can move on over to 2016.

Early December was filled with all kinds of goodies.
Vannie said this was one HOT group from Branson,
Wade and Teresa Landry with their Swinging Cajun Style.
They heard them at the First Methodist Church in Bernice...
sponsored  by the Bernice Hysterical (oops, Historical) Society.

I didn't get to GO to the Farmerville Methodist Church cantata,
but I did HEAR it.  Dave had been practicing on it for months.
The choir director had sent him the music.
Can you see him?  Back row, second from the right...smiling big.
One of his favorite December activities.!!!

Happy Birthday, Amy
V and D's niece

V and Jo Heard Tatum...
2 good ole Bernice girls

Cousin Janet, Cousin George, Vannie
George's 90th birthday
V and D made a quick trip back to Dallas to help George celebrate.

Alvin Green's Memorial Bridge Dedication
Alvin was from Bernice and did so much for the area.
Vannie attended and was recognized as the
daughter of a former mayor, Taft Burns.
She said she was feeling like royalty.

Some Farmerville friends spreading holiday cheer.
Stan and Patsy Bacle, Fran and Richard Robertson, Buddy Fisher,
Bonnie , Dave,  Kathy Fisher, Don

A Christmas Tradition for the Harris Clan...
Renting a cabin on Lake D'Arbonne
There's Dave...waving...
Can you see the full moon?
Gorgeous

Christmas in the Woods

Vannie took this picture early one morning in the
back of the cabin.
I know...it looks like a black and white photo,
but it's actually in color.
One of those gray mornings with the fog coming off the lake...
Vannie said it was really a special time to go for a walk.

V and D's grandkids LOVE the cabin
and the woods around it.
Great place for exploring and having fun...
Vincent loved sneaking up on unsuspecting victims with his Nerf gun.

...and Maddie is delighted T-Pop
is listening to her read her book.

...and Cooper...a fire in the fire pit...
a cup of hot chocolate...and s'mores...all he needs.

Oh No...what happened?
A quick trip to the ER after a spill on his skateboard
proved to be a little more serious than first thought.
Concussion and some skinned up knees...
ER doctor in Farmerville was a wee bit concerned
about Cooper's memory loss...so she sent him
over to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.
A variety of doctors checked him out and
decided to release him.
No more skateboarding for a while.
He still does not remember the accident.
Praise the Lord and thank you, Jesus...
he had on his helmet. (His parents have insisted on
the helmet since he first learned how to ride a bike at
three years old.)  They didn't miss much...back for
the "Harris' Clan Party" that evening.

Left to right...
Vannie, Pearl, Stephanie, Judy, Brooke, Roger, Michael
Maddie and Emilie are in front.
Notice Pearl had on her PJ's and robe...
she just got out of the hospital the day before.
She was in there most of December.

Gran and Maddie are having a big conversation.

Love this pic...
Diane, Cooper, Roy, Ashley, Pearl, Emilie, Maddie

Just had to include this one...
What a hoot!
This was a gift from the ladies at the pharmacy in Farmerville.
Not enough space for the story that goes with this surprise.
Everyone got a good laugh, for sure.
Pearl said she would model it on New Years Day.

Christmas Eve Lunch with the Bernice crowd.
Ashley...the official turkey carver

The kid's table
Cooper, Vincent, Ben (great great nephew), Maddie

Amy and Lisa and Ben

Maddie and Ben loved playing together.

Now, that's a Texas Girl...if I ever saw one.

Another much wanted present

Daughter-in-law, Diane, introduced a new tradition it this year's Christmas.
Lighted Chinese Paper Lanterns
Dave said that you first unfold the lantern...then light a small disc in the bottom...
works on the same principle of a hot air balloon.

Hold it till it is inflated...

...then let it go.
Ashley said the balloons went up very high
and then burned up before falling back to the earth.
Pretty Cool...!!!

Christmas Morning
"Vannie, Santa brought me a bike even thought I wouldn't take my picture with him."

"T-Pop, Santa brought me a bike, too."
Notice, the new helmet...the other one had a huge crack down the back of it...
but it saved his life.

"I can do it all by myself."
What was Santa thinking???
Nail polish for a 3 year old...
and, of course, all the other presents had to wait until she painted her toes.

Every kids needs a headlight...

...and every dad

...and every mom.

...and then came the stockings.

Vannie said she was sorry that
T-Pop, Roy, and Diane were napping,
but she really does LOVE this picture.
Surrounded by son, daughter, and grandkids...

Goodbye, Cabin...
Vannie and Dave say...
"Thanks again for a time."

BLESSED

I simply can not close up this blog without
including this picture.
Just as Pearl was leaving the hospital,
Dave snapped this picture.
Some how it is kind of comforting
seeing her surrounded by the Holy Family and God's creatures.
It's been a rough December for her..."Hang in there, Pearl."
