JUST GETTING THERE IS PART OF THE FUN

By

Getting there is part of the fun.
We all know that when we plan a trip
to a specific location, we can hardly wait to get there.
Well, I'm here to tell you, Folks, remember to
smell the roses along the way.
Notice the sky, the flowers, the trees,
the people, the food, the air...each and every
thing is part of the journey...it's worth our attention...
it's part of the fun.

Vannie, Dave, and myself have been in New Mexico
for a couple of weeks...just wanted to share
with you some of our adventures getting here.

V and D always like to take the back roads.
I prefer it, too.  Those interstate highways
give me the willies.
We rolled on down Highways 22, 377, 67, ad 158
before we stopped overnight in Odessa, TX.

Look at Dave.  He really takes care of me.
He is checking to see if my tires are wearing out.
I have new axles...they were working great...no wear and tear on those new tires.

Another stop for a "walk-around and eat" break.
This was a mall in the Brownwood/Early, TX area.

Made it to Odessa, TX for an overnighter with V and D's
friends, Dan and Dorothy Jowers and their adorable dog, Boudreaux.
I was parked right in front of the Jowers' home.
I was lovin' the attention.

Who knew Odessa had so many sites to explore.!!!
Here they are exploring Odessa's replica of Stonehenge.

Peep-Eye
I think if those girls had waited long enough,
those shadows would have actually told them the time.

Cross and 10 Commandments
The structure sits between Midland and Odessa
and was funded by an Odessa businessman.

The Chris Kyle Memorial
"American Sniper"
It is composed of granite and Texas limestone.

Celebrating Vannie's birthday (early)
at the Texas Roadhouse.
If it is your birthday, no free dessert here.
They make you act like a chicken and do the chicken dance.
The last time V and D were in Odessa, it was Dorothy's birthday.
This time Vannie got the honors.!!!

On to Bottomless Lake State Park via Highways 385, 214, and 380.
This State Park is near Roswell, NM.
This delightful picture was taken out my back window.
That thin blue line is the lake.

You can see it a little here.

Now, you can have the full effect.
It was a beautiful place to swim, picnic, hike, and camp.

See those mountains in the back.
Those are the infamous Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque, NM.
We were parked at the Coronado State Monument Park.
I stayed by myself for 2 nights while V and D visited
with their friend,
Loretta Norell.

Here's sweet Loretta

Vannie said that Loretta is the tour guide extraordinaire.
They enjoyed a morning at the Museum of Art and History in Albuquerque.

L and V goofing around.

How da do dat?

Casa Benavidez on 4th St. in Albuquerque...
Wonderful Restaurant with great ambiance.

Dave said the fajitas were to die for.

Time to head to my sweet little spot in Questa...
Here we are passing by the Taos Mountains
...still with a wee bit of snow on the top.

I'm so happy...getting all set up for a 4 month stay.

So pleasant...

Dave has my compound all set up
...screen room for cooking and eating
...tent for piano playing and exercise and can be used as an extra bedroom.
We are ready for guests.

What fun we had getting to our destination!!!
