THE COLORADO CONNECTIONS

By
Gypsy Rhapsody

Tis the land where the columbines grow,
Overlooking the plains far below,
While the cool summer breeze in the evergreen trees
Softly sings where the columbines grow.

Just a few verses from the Colorado State Song...
Vannie and Dave sang this to me when they returned from their
"Colorado Connections".
Vannie said that Northern New Mexico morphs into Southern Colorado
with the same ease of a bird in flight.
So smooth...so calm...so beautiful

V and D had several days off in a row, so they waved bye to me and headed north.
Connecting
Connecting
Connecting

...with the mountains...the towns...the people

First connection...
San Luis, CO
Founded 1851...Oldest Town in CO
You can see Dave walking the trail...heading to the top of the mesa...Chapel of All Saints
Located in the middle of San Luis

All along the path are beautiful bronze stations of the cross.
Artist...Huberto Maestas
Models of the sculptures are also in a collection at the Vatican in Rome.

Made it to the top...
V and D said prayers inside for their friend, Grace Turner, who has been very sick.

Back in town...Look who Van and Dave ran in to...Huberto, himself.
He was working on a mural in the downtown area.

Another new mural painted on the side of an art gallery

V said that this one is painted on the side of the Sangre de Cristo Parish Church.

Second Connection
Mary Ann and Richard from Farmerville, LA
Can you believe???
Mary Ann and Richard are staying in their RV for the summer in Chama, CO.

Vannie said that they arrived just in time for lunch.
Do you think they planned that?
I kind of think so...

Third Connection
New Landscape...on the way to Pagosa Springs, CO
Grace and Richard Qualls
Grace and Richard are from Lafayette, LA.  They spend the summers in Pagosa Springs.
Wow...Dinner out by Williams Lake

Can you see the Indian?...It took be a minute or two, but there he is...
Yes, I see him!

V and D had brought gumbo for dinner.
Dave said they heated it up before they headed to the lake
and served it out of the back of the truck.
Sure wish I had been there.

Grace and Richard showed V and D a great trail.

Watch it, Dave...Don't get to close to the edge!

V said the trail was beautiful and not too hard.

Fourth Connection

Jennings and Cindy drove over to Pagosa.
