NIAGARA FALLS...WET AND WILD

 By

Minuet in G (MinnieG)

(a 1979 Argosy...made by Airstream... that wants to get WET AND WILD.)

Niagara Falls RV Park, Niagara Falls, NY

It was rainy and messy when we arrived

in Niagara Falls.  I was getting really wet,

and, frankly, I could do without the wild...

unlike Vannie and Dave.  They had read about Niagara Falls,

saw movies about Niagara Falls, heard from other people about Niagara Falls...

so they were really ready to see the REAL thing.

After parking and getting me all settled in, they inquired in the office

about the best way to see the Falls in all its glory.

The office manager suggested Bedore Tours.  V and D were not sure,

but decided to go for it.  Vannie told me later that was the best decision.

A Wonderful Tour...A Great Tour Guide (Mark the Canadian)...And the price was right!!!

Classic All American Adventure Tour

(Going across the Falls to the Canadian side was an option, but, because of COVID, was extremely complicated, so V and D decided to stick to the good old USA side.)

Did you know that Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in the country?  Vannie and Dave visited the oldest national park last year (Yellowstone).  What a special treat to get to visit the oldest state park this year!!!  At least they were not the oldest people there...getting close, though.!

This tour included Giant Whirlpool, the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls (Canadian Falls), Goat Island (guide called it Goatless Island...hadn't seen a goat in years), Luna Island, 3 Sister's Island, and much more.  The Falls in the middle of this picture are the American Falls.  The ones in the back right are the Canadian or Horseshoe Falls.  The tiny little black dot in front of the Horseshoe Falls is the Maid of the Mist tour boat.

Dave is taking a pic of the Giant Whirlpool.
The water was swirling and curling.
WILD

Dave found this small map that helps to show the placement of the Giant Whirlpool.
This place actually has it's own state park.  There is a staircase that goes down into the Niagara Gorge... completed in 2016.  This natural whirlpool is located in the Niagara River.

Another shot from the stone walkway...

Vannie took this close-up.
Lots of action going on here.
WILD

The Maid of the Mist
The Maid starts and ends on the American side of the Falls.
It does cross briefly into Canada during part of the trip.

This is one of the new fully electric boats.
Vannie said this was the perfect place to experience the
600,000 gallons of water falling per second from the Falls.

Here's Vannie decked out in her souvenir Maid of the Mist rain poncho.
The Maid just passed by the American Falls and is heading to the Horseshoe Falls.
The power and grandeur of the Falls is experienced up-close and personal on the Maid.

American Falls
Dave said you can distinguish the A.F. by the amount of large rocks at the base.

Canadian or Horseshoe Falls
The horseshoe shape distinguishes this one.

American Falls

Panorama View from the Maid
Dave is on the right.
You are looking at an old abandoned power factory
on the Canadian side.

WET AND WILD

Here you can see both...

Watch out little bird!!!

V and D were standing on an observation area at the top of the falls.
If you look closely in the center of the photo, you can see a large tower with
walks extending out from either side.  Tourists can walk out on those and observe the
Falls in a different perspective.

The reddish rows you see here are actually walkways.
They will lead you up to the Hurricane Deck at the
Cave of the Winds where the water crashes right down on top of your head.  YIKES!
This is a natural cave behind Bridal Veil Falls.

The blue arrow is pointing to the final location
of the Hurricane Deck.
Since V and D are from Louisiana,
they are familiar with the power of wind and water.
Yep, they said that this deck fit it's namesake.

When this picture was taken, Vannie had one more deck to ascend.
She said that it was incredibly hard to stand up straight.
She was experiencing the mighty Falls closer than she ever thought possible.
I think she could get a job on the weather channel.
Move over Jim Cantore.!!!

WET AND WILD

Luna Island
Dave said this was a beautiful small island.
Look closely...the little white dots are birds.
This was above the Falls.

Vannie enjoying Luna Island.

These guys are looking the part...

Discover Niagara Falls!!!
You'll never be sorry you decided to get...
