FLORIDA ADVENTURE...POST 9

By
Gypsy Rhapsody

Good Morning, Boys and Girls...
Praying that the rain has subsided in Louisiana.
Lots of folks have been misplaced from their homes because of the flooding.
Hope all of my readers are high and dry.

Today is a "Show you around Melbourne" Day.
We have discovered that this place has it "goin' on".
It is kind of spread out, but lots of little "special" spots.

As you all know, we are staying in Land Yacht Harbor.

I love waking up to these creatures walking across my yard.
This is the Sandhill Crane.  It is a mighty big bird.
How it makes it around on those tall skinny legs is beyond me.
It lives in North America and extreme northeastern Siberia.
Siberia????
This bird is one of many on Florida's Imperiled Species list.
In a nutshell, that means don't bother them.
Anyway, it can live to be 20 years old.
...and while we are on the subject of age....
that brings me to the subject of birthdays.
Just so ya know...Dave has recently discovered that my official birthday
is July 13, 1976...so you know what that means...I'll be 40 this summer.
We'll be in New Mexico, but a big party is in the works.
Cards and gifts will be appreciated! Hee Hee
Isn't it amazing how quickly I can off the subject when it comes to ME...

OK...back to Florida.

Another thing about the people in Land Yacht Harbor is
...they LOVE to plan games.
This is one Vannie tried yesterday...Bocce Ball.
Do you see that little TINY white ball?
Well, it seems each player has different colored balls,
and they have to roll them one at a time down to where that
TINY little white ball is perched.  After everyone has rolled,
the closest colored ball to that TINY little white ball wins.
V said there were a few more rules, but that's the gist.

One morning the kids set out for a day of exploring.
They waved to me and my new BFF, the sandhill crane.
I've nicknamed him Mr. Skinny Legs.
He said he liked that much better than Mr. Red Top.

Dave said their first stop was Dunkin Donuts.
He was so excited about finding this place, because
they could get a free donut with their AARP card AND
the coffee was delicious and half the price of Starbucks.
Better watch those donuts...I've heard they do strange things to your hips.

The Atlantic Ocean
Big and Powerful

Vannie just had to put her feet in it...very chilly.

Gee Whiz...looks like a Pelican showed up.
Love the colors of the beach houses.
That yellow one matches the Pelican's topknot.

The Art District was right around the corner from where they were exploring the ocean.
V and D said it reminded them of downtown New Iberia, LA...except for the palm trees.
There were trees growing over the road and lots of moss.
This area of Melbourne is called Eau Gallie...meaning Rocky Water.

They happened upon the Foosaner Art Museum.
Admission was FREE.
They were batting a thousand...Free Donut and a Free Museum.
The exhibit showing was works of a Cuban Artist, Gordillo.
They both loved it and plan to return.

Around the corner from the Art Museum was this exquisite little restaurant...

...and a very long pier

...and a delightful little park

...and some always needed relaxing time.
Ahhhhh

On another excursion...V and D found the public library
in Eau Gallie.  A lady in the RV park had told them about this building
and the big window across the back with a beautiful view.

She was right...

They especially loved this stained glass piece, because
it depicted the roseate spoonbill.  Reminded them of Lafayette, LA
and St Martin Road where the spoonbills nest.

Day is almost over.
A Florida Sunset

Vannie is getting supper ready.
Quinoa Stuffed bell peppers...a recipe from daughter, Emilie.
Dave said it was delicious.

I love my lights that Dave's Cousin Sue Ellen gave me.

Look at them up close and personal.
Now, isn't that the "cat's meow" or "cat's pajamas" or "bee's knees".

I think I see Ole Mr. Moon smilin' down on me,
so Good Night...Sweet Dreams.
Don't let the bedbugs bite.
